A lightweight hardwood, thermally modified into a rich, exterior-ready material.
Carbon Smart Wood’s Thermal Poplar is produced from yellow poplar (Liriodendron tulipifera). Yellow poplar is one of the most abundant hardwoods in America, and traditionally it's been used indoors. Thermal modification extends it to exterior applications: a heat-and-steam process with no chemicals removes the moisture and sugars that invite decay, producing a stable material rated Class 1–2 for rot resistance. The process also deepens the wood's tone to a rich brown while keeping poplar's fine, even texture. The result is a lightweight hardwood suited to cladding, siding, and fencing.
