Zena Forest Products

Founded in 1987, Zena Forest Products is an Oregon-based multigenerational family business that restores and stewards resilient, locally sourced hardwood products for large-scale residential and material-conscious commercial spaces. As the largest contiguous block of forest in the Willamette Valley, the Forest Stewardship Council® certified property includes 1,300 acres of native Woodland ecosystems; the headwaters of Rickreall, Yamhill and Spring Valley watersheds; as well as vulnerable plant and animal species. Through regenerative and restorative forestry, they carefully manage every step in the process to create an ecologically sustainable and economically viable forest – from the beginning stages of native seedling plantation to producing beautiful hardwood flooring. Zena Forest Products makes EdgeGrain™, a premium hardwood floor that turns underutilized Oregon timber into a durable, chemical-free surface. Sourced and milled entirely in Oregon, glue-free, and built to last for generations.

The EdgeGrain™ Difference

EdgeGrain™ is built from ¾" hardwood strips set on edge in wire-backed tiles — a construction that wears harder, breathes to resist gapping, and lets a single tile be replaced instead of refinishing the whole floor.

Built to Last

The edge-grain surface stands up to heavy foot traffic, with a potential lifespan of 50+ years when properly maintained.

Repairable by Design

Built in individual tiles, so a worn or damaged section can be lifted and replaced. No refinishing the entire floor.

Breathable & Stable

The glue-free construction lets the hardwood breathe with the seasons, helping prevent the gapping common to conventional floors.

Chemical Free

Made without adhesives or added chemicals for a low-VOC floor. Well suited to LEED and Living Building Challenge projects.

Oregon-Made

Grown, milled, and manufactured entirely in Oregon from underutilized hardwood, making fuller use of every tree.

Frequently asked

  • What is Zena EdgeGrain™?

EdgeGrain™ is a solid hardwood flooring system built from ¾" wood strips set on edge and assembled into 7½" × 15" wire-backed tiles. It's the first edge-grain floor of its kind made in the U.S., crafted entirely from Oregon hardwood (including the smaller limbs and offcuts that usually go to waste).

  • What makes edge-grain flooring different?

Most floors show the flat face of the board. EdgeGrain™ turns the wood on edge, so the harder edge grain becomes the wearing surface. The result is a floor that's more durable underfoot, breathes to resist seasonal gapping, and — because it's tiled — can be repaired one section at a time.

  • Where does it work best?

EdgeGrain™ is built for both premium residential and high-traffic commercial spaces where design character and durability matter. Its showcase installation is Portland International Airport (PDX), where roughly 70,000 square feet of Oregon white oak EdgeGrain was installed in the main terminal.

  • How is it maintained and repaired?

With proper maintenance, EdgeGrain™ can last 50+ years. Because the floor is assembled from individual tiles, a damaged or worn area can be lifted and replaced on its own, rather than refinishing or replacing the whole floor. Day-to-day care follows standard hardwood maintenance.

  • Is it sustainable?

Yes. EdgeGrain™ is grown, milled, and made entirely in Oregon. It uses wood typically wasted, including and it puts smaller trees, limbs, and offcuts. It's built without glues or added chemicals, keeping VOCs low, and can be FSC® certified on request.
