Thermally modified hemlock decking with a Class A fire rating built in.
ThermaWood FR is Mataverde's thermally modified Hem-Fir, a clear vertical grain wood with a light, even tone suited to contemporary decks, docks, walkways, and rooftop terraces. Each board is thermally modified for stability and durability, then pressure treated with Chemco's non-toxic Thermex-FR and kiln dried again, bonding fire protection into the wood at the cellular level rather than coating the surface. The result is SaferWood: Class A fire rated through extended surface burning and accelerated weathering testing, and recognized as ignition resistant under the International Wildland Urban Interface Code and California's Chapter 7A WUI requirements per ICC-ES report ESR-1159. The treatment is a one-time factory process, permanent for the life of the board and backed by Chemco's limited lifetime warranty. Finished with an oil-based stain, it holds its warmth; left alone, it weathers to silver.
