Climate-Shield
Climate-Shield® is a patented rainscreen system for wood siding: marine-grade aluminum clips and components that create a ventilated, hidden-fastener wall assembly. No furring strips. Faster installs. Siding built to last.
The Ultimate Wood Rainscreen System
The system's open-joint, back-ventilated design keeps a continuous air gap behind the siding, shedding bulk water, drying the wall cavity, and carrying heat away before it reaches the building envelope.
No Furring Strips
Clips mount directly over plywood or OSB sheathing and set the rainscreen gap automatically, saving furring material, labor, and install time.
Truly Hidden Fasteners
Siding locks onto the clips with no visible fasteners, creating clean, uninterrupted facades. Install it horizontally, vertically, or diagonally.
Built Marine-Grade
Clips are made in the USA from marine-grade aluminum with stainless steel screws. No galvanic corrosion, no rot, and engineered to hurricane-zone requirements.
Healthier Walls
The pressure-equalized cavity drains bulk water and dries fast, protecting the building envelope from trapped moisture, mold, and rot.
Natural Energy Savings
Convective airflow in the wall cavity carries solar heat away from the structure, reducing cooling loads in hot weather. Rainscreens aren't just for rain.
A Complete System
Two clip families plus starter rails, vents, attachment channels, and Z-girts cover everything from siding and soffits to masonry and insulated walls.

Frequently asked
What is a rainscreen system?
A rainscreen holds siding slightly off the wall, creating a ventilated air gap behind it. That open-joint, back-ventilated cavity drains water, dries quickly, and keeps heat and moisture away from the building envelope, so both the siding and the structure last longer. Climate-Shield® pairs this time-tested principle with modern, patented components.
What makes Climate-Shield® different from other rainscreen clips?
Most clips still require furring strips; Climate-Shield® doesn't. Its clips mount directly over plywood or OSB and set the wall cavity automatically, with a wide flange and two stainless screws for fast, secure fastening. And it's a complete engineered system with starter rails, vents, attachment channels, and Z-girts, rather than a clip sold on its own.
What's the difference between the CS2 and CS10 systems?
CS2 is the most robust option: it creates the ¾" cavity building scientists consider ideal, works across residential and commercial projects, and is engineered for hurricane zones. CS10 creates a shallower 10 mm gap with a lower profile, making it ideal for soffits, remodels, and re-siding, since the siding projects less than most window trim.
What siding materials work with it?
Climate-Shield® is designed for high-density wood siding, and it pairs naturally with the thermally modified and domestically sourced siding lines across Cambium's portfolio. Thermally modified species deliver the density, stability, and decay resistance a rainscreen assembly is built for, without reaching for imported tropical hardwoods.
Does a rainscreen help with energy costs?
Yes. The ventilated cavity works in heat as well as rain: rising air in the gap carries solar heat away from the building envelope before it transfers inside, reducing cooling loads in hot climates. The hotter the weather, the stronger the convective effect.
Is it hard to install?
It's simpler than furring-strip methods. Set the pre-drilled starter rail level and every course above follows; adjacent boards share clips, so there's no cutting siding to land on 16" furring centers. The system installs horizontally, vertically, or diagonally over standard sheathing, with components for masonry, exterior gypsum, and insulated walls.
