Thermal Oak

Carbon Smart Wood’s Thermal Oak is produced from red oak (Quercus rubra). Thermal Oak is American red oak, thermally modified into a high-performance exterior material. A three-phase kiln process using only heat and steam, with no chemicals, removes the moisture, sugars, and starches that cause rot and insect damage. The thermal modification deepens the wood’s color and increases dimensional stability, allowing Thermal Oak to perform reliably in exterior environments for decades. Natural variation in tone, from lighter to darker browns, is inherent to the thermal modification process and is influenced by wood density and kiln conditions. For projects requiring long service life and structural confidence, Thermal Oak is often selected as a high-performance exterior hardwood.
