Made from Paper, Built to Last

Dozens of layers of resin-infused paper, hand-laid and pressed under heat, give Richlite a dense, void-free body. These layers are the source of its strength, its workability, and its warm, tactile surface.

Exceptionally Durable

High impact resistance plus real deflective and flexural strength make Richlite tough enough for countertops, work surfaces, and high-traffic spaces.

Built to Be Machined

Dense, consistent, and free of voids, Richlite drills, taps, and routs cleanly. It holds crisp edges and complex patterns that other surfaces can't.

Tactile by Nature

The way the paper fibers settle gives every sheet a distinctive matte texture and warm, hand-finished feel you won't find in stone or plastic.

Sustainable Materials

Made from FSC®-certified paper. The Northwest collection is 100% recycled and uses an in-house waste-to-energy process.

Low Maintenance

Water- and weather-resistant with no painting or refinishing required, indoors or in select exterior cladding.

Frequently asked

  • What is Richlite?

Richlite is a solid surface material made from paper. High-grade FSC®-certified paper is infused with a thermosetting resin, hand-laid in alternating layers, and pressed under heat and pressure into a dense, stable panel. The result performs like a premium solid surface, with a warm, natural feel.

  • What colors and finishes are available?

Richlite comes in a range of colors and textures across collections like Northwest, Heritage, Cascade, and Stratum. Because options vary, confirm current colors, sheet sizes, and finishes with the Cambium team for your project.

  • Is Richlite actually wood?

Richlite is a paper composite, not solid lumber. But it shares the same roots: the paper comes from FSC®-certified, responsibly managed forests, so it carries wood's renewable, low-carbon story in a denser, more workable form.

  • Where is it used?

Richlite shows up in countertops and culinary surfaces, casework and furniture, wall panels and architectural cladding, and fixtures. It can be incorporated anywhere a durable, refined, low-maintenance surface is wanted. It's also a longtime favorite for specialty uses like instrument fretboards and skateboards.

  • How durable is it, and can it go outside?

Very durable. Richlite resists impact, water, and weather, needs no painting or refinishing, and stands up to heavy daily use. It works indoors and in select exterior cladding, though it's a surface and panel material, not a structural or load-bearing one.

  • How sustainable is it?

Richlite is made entirely from FSC®-certified paper, and its Northwest collection uses 100% recycled paper. It's manufactured in Tacoma using an in-house waste-to-energy process, and because it lasts for decades, surfaces are replaced far less often.
