Today we're announcing that General Woodcraft, a 77-year-old specialty wood distributor with bicoastal operations, has joined Cambium.
It's a big moment for us, three days after launching our new brand, and it's the same idea in a different form: the wood economy works better connected. General Woodcraft brings something no platform can build from scratch: nearly eight decades of product knowledge, supplier relationships, and customer trust in specialty wood. Cambium brings the market, the technology, and the scale to put all of that to work for far more people.
Who General Woodcraft is
Since 1947, General Woodcraft has helped architects, contractors, and dealers source specialty wood products, from hardwood decking and cladding to rainscreen systems, with a reputation built on product expertise and straight answers. Their brands include Mataverde, a leading name in premium decking and cladding, and Climate-Shield, a widely specified rainscreen system.
They've done it from both coasts, with teams in New London, Connecticut and California serving customers nationwide.
Why this, why now
The wood industry runs on two things that rarely live in the same place: deep expertise and modern infrastructure. Independent distributors like General Woodcraft carry decades of knowledge about species, performance, sourcing, and specification. But the industry around them has stayed fragmented, analog, and hard to navigate at scale.
Cambium is the modern market for wood: we connect suppliers and buyers so today's projects can source modern materials at any scale. Adding General Woodcraft means that market now includes one of the most trusted specialty distribution operations in the country: its products, its supply relationships, and most importantly, its people.
" You can't shortcut 77 years of trust. General Woodcraft's team knows specialty wood as well as anyone in the country, and their customers know it. Our job is to give that expertise a bigger stage. More supply behind it, more buyers in front of it, and modern tools underneath it", said Cambium CEO, Ben Christensen.

What this means
- For General Woodcraft and Mataverde customers: everything you rely on continues. The team, the products and open orders, now with a bigger catalog and deeper supply behind it.
- For Cambium customers: the portfolio grows. Select Mataverde and Climate-Shield product lines are joining cambium.com, alongside specialty distribution capability on both coasts.
- For the industry: this is what we mean by connecting and modernizing the wood economy -- not replacing the businesses that built it, but giving them access to newer and larger markets.
What's next
Mataverde and Climate-Shield product information goes live on cambium.com shortly, and we'll be introducing the General Woodcraft team and their work here on the blog in the weeks ahead.
If you're an architect, contractor, or dealer who's worked with General Woodcraft, welcome. And if you haven't yet: we're excited for you to meet the team.
