Continuing economic decline across Europe drives several western European states to the brink of collapse, including France and Germany.

US Scientists create cures for the both the AIDS Virus and cancer via DNA technology.

A little known political group calling itself the World Society is elected in France, promising a return to socialist age. It gains traction with massive spending programs and taxation.

Throughout Europe, the World Society takes root. Germany, Poland, Italy, all elect World Society or World Society ally governments.

| 2020 |
The EU, sans Britain, which dropped out rather than sign the declaration, demands that the industrialized nations ‘share’ there wealth with the developing world via a world wide tax system, abolishing many aspects of accepted national sovereignty.

Following the rejection of the declaration the year before, the EU, now completely controlled by the World Society, attempts to impose sanctions and starts trade wars with the United States and Great Britain. Around this time, the World Society begins to call for the repression of religion, calling it a “crutch of the weak minded.

The World Society’s trade sanctions are checked by virtue of the developing world continuing to buy US and English goods. Rumblings of military action begin to be heard.

The World Society attempts to move troops into the Middle East, via Turkey. Turkish military forces, aided by a US Carrier group, halt the European troops in their tracks.

The World Society demands that the oil fields be internationalized and “the hooks of religion be removed from that important resource.

| 2032 |
Israel and the Arab League sign a treaty of alliance, agreeing to end all hostilities between them to deal with the World Society threat. Sporadic attacks from extremists on both sides continue, but relative calm is throughout the Middle East at last.

The EU conducts another invasion of the Middle East, this time through both Iran and Turkey at the same time. The Middle Eastern nations are forced back to a defensive line that stretches from the Persian Gulf to the Mediterranean Sea. The United States and Great Britain both back the Mid East Alliance, and pour naval and air resources into support, and in some cases, direct combat roles.

An EU sub group sinks 3 British light aircraft carriers, and all but wipes out a group of British naval transports. Britain responds by making a formal declaration of war.

A kind of phony war exists between England and the EU; most of the action is centered in the Middle East, where, despite great odds, the Mid East Alliance is holding off the EU and exacting huge casualities.

The EU calls a truce, which is accepted on all sides, with the exception of England, who argues that the EU must be destroyed and occupied.

The EU degrades English air power, eventually projecting its might over the entire island nation. The English appeal for help from the west.

The United States reenters the war, with a massive show of force – no less than 8 Nuclear Aircraft carriers appear off the English coasts, and take up protective positions. For a time, the EU calls off its strikes.

-2050 |
While the US is occupied helping England, the EU stages a World Society coup in China. Seemingly out of nowhere, Chinese warships bombard Taiwan and invade it, and then attempt to invade the US West Coast; though beaten back, they take a serious toll on the US Pacific Fleet.
