Plasma cannons are the primary weapons mounted on starships of the Alliance, League, and Saurian fleets. Unlike particle cannons, which direct their energy as both kinetic and thermal to do damage to enemy ships, plasma cannons are primarily thermal in nature, possessing very little relative kinetic damage potential. The most powerful plasma cannon is mounted on the League dreadnought designated the Behemoth-class: it has an energy rating of 500 terajoules per shot.
